Llandudno

Who could possibly argue with that while strolling along Llandudno’s elegant promenade past pastel-coloured properties and impeccably authentic seafront architecture just like Victorians did?

All that’s needed to complete the picture is a frilly parasol (for the ladies) and straw boater (for the gentlemen).

Llandudno’s appearance is down to the fact that, unlike most other resorts, it has remained largely unchanged for over a century. There’s a pier (the longest in Wales) and Punch and Judy, donkey rides on the beach and canopied shopping streets just behind the prom.

Put simply, the undisputed ‘Queen’ of the Welsh resorts retains its period dignity.

The Great Orme Cable Car

The Llandudno cable cars have been running every year since June 1969 and are renowned for being the most comprehensive passenger cable car system in Britain. This inimitable experience continues to be one of the town’s most popular tourist attractions, as well as the Great Orme Tramway which, opened in 1902 and is now ‘Britain’s only surviving cable street tramway, and one of three in the world.

Enjoy breath-taking panoramic views at 679 feet above sea level of the Little Orme, the Conwy Estuary, the Irish sea, and on a clear day; you may even spot the Isle of Man some sixty miles North West. If you look down, you will see a picturesque landscape garden, also known as Happy Valley. The summer is the best time to appreciate an array of harmonious colours that create the perfect backdrop. The cable cars themselves are decorative, and their bright primary colours enhance the beautiful welsh coastline.

Afraid of highs, try the Great Orme Tramway instead?

Great Orme Copper Mines

Llandudno’s Great Orme Mines are regarded as the largest prehistoric copper mines in the world. These narrow tunnels date back to the Bronze Age and feature a 145-metre-deep Victorian mine shaft. If you’re not claustrophobic, we highly recommend exploring these passageways, many of which seem to be built by young children.
