When it comes to planning the perfect summer getaway with great family attractions, look no further than Llandudno.
Llandudno, known for its dramatic landscapes, rich history, and charming town, has recently been recognised as one of the top holiday spots in the UK with plenty of activities for children of all ages.
North Shore Beach is one of the best beaches in Llandudno to enjoy summertime activities such as sunbathing, windsurfing, and parasailing. Also called Llandudno Beach, the sheltered beach has a beautiful Victorian-style pier and a promenade that spans from the foot of Great Orme to Little Orme.
One of our favourite Llandudno attractions for families is the Great Orme Cable Car & Tramway. The Llandudno cable cars have been running every year since June 1969 and are renowned for being the most comprehensive passenger cable car system in Britain. This inimitable experience continues to be one of the town’s most popular tourist attractions.
Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views at 679 feed above sea level of the Little Orme, the Conwy Estuary, the Irish sea, and on a clear day you may even spot the Isle of Man some sixty miles north west.
The Great Orme tramway has been carting passengers to and from Llandudno since the 1900s, making it one of the oldest street tramways in the world. The route consists of 3 stops, namely Victoria Station in the town centre, Halfway Station (where you need to disembark and switch trams), and the Great Orme Summit Station.
Thereās something wonderfully nostalgic about steam trains, and the Welsh Highland Railway offers scenic winter rides through some of North Walesā most dramatic landscapes. Starting in Caernarfon and running all the way to Porthmadog, the journey takes you through snow-covered hills and valleys, offering unbeatable views of Mount Snowdon and surrounding countryside. Some winter trains even offer festive treats like mulled wine and mince pies onboard!
Embark on a chocolatey odyssey that spans 5000 years! Llandudno’s chocolate museum weaves is way through the colourful and surprising history of this most beloved food.
Your journey will begin with the ancient peoples of Central America before passing through nine distinct eras. There will be an Aztec temple, a Pirate Ship as well as a replica of a World War One trench to discover. Few things say āseaside holidayā quite like a stroll along the pier, and Llandudno Pier is a real gem!
With its Grade II listed status, itās a traditional seaside pier dating from the late 1800s with an array of shops, cafes, funfair, bars and attractions ā offering fun for all the family!
Stretching 2,295 feet (700 m) over the sea, Llandudno Pier is the longest in Wales.
Llandudnoās Great Orme Mines are regarded as the largest prehistoric copper mines in the world. These narrow tunnels date back to the Bronze Age and feature a 145-metre-deep Victorian mine shaft. If youāre not claustrophobic, we highly recommend exploring these passageways, many of which seem to be built by young children.
Llandudno Ski and Snowboard Centre is where you can enjoy slope-based activities throughout the year. Its most popular feature is the Cresta Toboggan ride, which is the longest of its kind in Wales. The ride spans 750m in length and offers beautiful views of Llandudno Bay. Other facilities here include snowboarding, skiing, and snow tubing, as well as a miniature golf course.
Donkey rides and Punch and Judy shows are popular attractions on Llandudno Beach. Donkey rides have been a tradition on the beach for over 125 years, and Punch and Judy shows are a traditional family-friendly entertainment option. The shows are particularly common during the summer months.
